Ok, granted this is not serious literature. But it makes me laugh and it's fun reading it.Is it her very best book? No, it's not. But it's still fun!
I love Stephanie Plum and Grandma Mazur, and Ranger and Morelli too! They feel like old friends when I open one of the Stephanie Plum books.
All in all, this one is pretty tame, but, by no means is it the worst book I've ever read.

Takedown Twenty Stephanie Plum Janet Evanovich 9780345542892 Books Reviews
I'm absolutely in LOVE with the Stephanie Plum series....Started out years ago reading these and have been hooked ever since. I get really excited when a new one is released cause I know I'm going to laugh and cry right along with all these characters. l look froward to all the hi-jinks and drama Stephanie, Lula, Ranger, Joe and (my favorite)Grandma Mazur gets into....I love reading books that draw me into the story and with all the crazy characters in this series I almost feel like it's my family.
With each new book Stephanie Plum bounty hunter extraordinaire(sic) brings in the the laughter with Grandma Mazur addiction to funeral viewings, the groans of pain when trying to apprehend a new bounty with the ever expanding Lula. And in the just who will Stephanie end up with???? Joe, the hot cop from her past, Ranger the even hotter bounty hunter, or Rex her ever present and always there for her, hamster???? Guess you'll just have to read them and see, you wont be sorry....
I was not impressed at all by this installment. Not only was nothing resolved whatsoever in the Morelli-Ranger-Stephanie triangle, Ranger and Morelli had zero depth. They essentially show up, spout tired, cookie-cutter lines and exit their scenes. Same old, same old. I could have been reading any one of the last six or seven installments. Stephanie's visit to Morelli on game day is a weak excuse for her to back off from commitment, and that's the last nod we get to the triangle. Morelli even hands Stephanie off to Ranger a few times so that he can get back to his cop work. Sure, that's realistic. I understand it's fiction, but it would be nice if the characters actually showed believable traits.
The giraffe was mildly amusing, but once again, completely unbelievable. There is no way that a giraffe is going to go unnoticed or unreported in suburbia for that long in this day and age. I like a good story with a funny twist, but when it's that far out of the realm of reason, I can't even manage to hang onto the storyline.
Stephanie just seems to be going through the motions at this point.
It's really too bad, because I loved the earlier installments of this series.
Notorious Nineteen could not have been written by Janet Evanovich. I was skeptical about Takedown Twenty. I mean, I'm invested in this series- I've read them all and eagerly await the UPS knock on my door with my annual installment of Plum. This one read more like a Evanovich, but some of the characters' voices were off. Lula, Morelli, and Ranger just didn't sound like themselves. Especially Lula.
The flow of the book was also off. I would hit a paragraph and have to stop, go back a page or two, and read it again to make it make sense. Something has changed, perhaps Janet is no longer lead author, or she's run out of things to write. The idea was good, the story could have been great. There were funny parts. But enough somethings were 'off' just enough to make it only a mediocre book.
Here goes Stephanie Plum again! Take Down Twenty by Janet Evanovich is a fun read. Plum gets herself into more situatiions than one can count. Yes, she a bounty hunter. She only gets paid if and when she locates a bond jumper, tracks them down and brings them in to the Trenton NJ police. She comes from a large family in Trenton and because of it's size, some of her relatives just might be on the wrong side of the law. Her boy friend and lover, Joe Morelli, a homide detective, an Ranger, who runs his own business in Trenton, do their very best to keep Steph out of trouble. Trouble? You have now idea just how much trouble Steph can and does get in! It just seems to follow her around! Cars and trucks catch fire and she is always looking for a new ride! Her Uncle Sunny, is on the other side of the law. Steph knows, the family knows, but how to catch him? Steph's grandma Mazur want to help find the crooks. This is a fun read! Once you begin reading Janet Evanovich novels, well, need I say more Ratee "R" for sexual content and language. DP. Castro Valley, CA.
Maybe that's it with Stephanie Plum now? Evanovich does Business as usual again, and does so at least since book 16. There is always this little hope that she finally gets around to being brilliant again, but maybe she is just tired of Plum herself? Never mind, there are other funny female detectives out there, but newer and fresher, like in Heads Off (A Lisa Becker Mystery).
The book feels like copy and pasted from the other 19 books, but this time a giraffe on the loose is in it. That's almost worth it, ridiculous and stupid, yes, but not predictable as the rest of the novel. Stephanie still can't decide between Ranger and Morelli - this has gone on so long it's just tedious. Even Grandma Mazur is more creepy than funny, Lula delivers her lines, the guys come in and leave again, absolutely nothing happens. The bounty hunting is nothing special and follows the beaten track. Stephanie says in the book we've done this before". Indeed we have.
If you treat this series like a sitcom with its repetitive humor, it's still enjoyable. But if there is going to be more, I would like to see some development. By which I mean Dump Joe. Or Ranger. As long as I still care.
Ok, granted this is not serious literature. But it makes me laugh and it's fun reading it.
